sir,
With reference to Your Excellency's letter No. 3314/1914 dated 31st. December, 1914, addressed to His Excellency
the General Officer Commanding, relative to Pilot Buhrmann,
prisoner of wor, I have the honour to inform Your excellency that
the correspondence has been passed to me and I have submitted it
to the Naval Commander-in-Chief.
In this connection I would remark that the Admiral-
-ty direct "all able bodied men liable to Military service
between the ages of 18 and 50 to be removed from neutral vessels*.
There seems no guarantee that Buhrmann will not attempt to return
to Germany or engage in hostile acts in the neighbourhood of
Hongkong, for which his former employment renders him specially
suitable, so that I consider that his release is inadvisable.
I have etc.,
His Excellency
(sd.) Robt. H. Anstruther,
Commodore.
Sir F. H. May, K.0M.G.,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief,
Hongkong.
